Stain is Less - "Design, Timeless, Minimal made in Knäred"

Stain is Less by Laga Rostfritt, Handicraft tradition since 1958

“Good design is as little as possible. Less, but better, because it concentrates on the essential aspects, and the products are not burdened with non-essentials. Back to purity, back to simplicity.”

Dieter Rams, Weniger, Aber Besser/Less But Better

Saga Karlsson and Edouard Boisse, an architect couple. She from Borås and he from Lille. For the past 10 years, both have worked on complex, international projects, but after many years on a large scale, the couple decided to focus on the details. It all started when they acted as architects, developers and (partly) contractors for their own villa. A house in the middle of nature near one of Gothenburg's larger nature reserves.

During the design process, the couple worked with materiality and its relationship to nature. As a result of the design process, both architects chose to draw the fixed interior themselves with mm-precision. Including sinks, desks and kitchen fittings. After careful consideration, the couple settled on using solid stainless steel. The material faintly reflects the changes in nature without becoming a direct mirror image. The stainless steel is also timeless, durable and robust, which makes it a good long-term investment.

The result of the permanent interior design paved the way for a new collaboration between the architect couple and Lagarostfritt, a supplier with great craftsmanship. A collaboration that subsequently led to the development of various prototypes and a product series that they came to call “Stain is less”. The product series is made in Knäred and is 100% handmade, which means that it can be delivered with mm precision to suit each unique project.
