Förnya: Renew, Reframe, Disrupt

I am a furniture designer based in Malmö, focusing on creating furniture and functional objects that challenge perceptions of everyday materials. My work emphasises the inherent qualities of materials, encouraging re-evaluation and uncovering new possibilities. Often constructed from flat surfaces, my designs combine colour and material to form transparent, layered structures with complex spatial dimensions. Through design, I explore how furniture can tell stories about processes, materials, and conventions, using it as a medium to engage with material culture and speculative design.

Past projects include working with off-cut cross-laminated timber, where the material’s structural simplicity and strength were highlighted as aesthetic qualities. More recently, I developed a series of lamps using recycled dead-stock security glass, investigating lighting through a historical lens.

I am also interested in how traditional techniques and storytelling can be used to recycle cultural practices and make them relevant today. For example, I explored traditional marbling techniques on wood and created a milking stool inspired by an old Swedish superstition about stopping nosebleeds.

Anna Cederquist and Martin Harborg, in Musikgruppen SKROT (Music group SKROT-Scrap), are based in Malmö, Sweden. They are musicians, educators, composer, creators, producers, builders, and instrument makers with over 25 years of experience with stage and educational work with children, youth, and adults. They also work with musical scenography, tech, production, design, construction projects, museum exhibitions, interactive rooms, and musical playgrounds.

BÖS is a newly started design duo that explores recycling as a dynamic process and relational meaning-making. Through deconstruction and reconstruction, new unexpected encounters, forms, functions and expressions are created. Each object carries traces of its past, while at the same time opening up new possibilities. Recycling becomes both an aesthetic expression and a conceptual tool that renegotiates the value of what is considered lost or unusable. Our practice is characterized by an experimental and intuitive method where the process is guided by a material and conceptual exploration in a dialogue between what has been, is and can be.

Furniture That Grows With You

What if furniture wasn’t something you owned but something you built, shaped, and evolved with? This modular system is designed to change as you do, letting you create shelves, seating, tables, and dividers that expand, shift, and adapt over time. Instead of throwing furniture away when life moves on, you simply add, adjust, or reimagine.

At its core is a universal connector—a joint that brings together wood and metal in a flexible, reusable way. Think of it as the glue without the glue, the hinge without the limits. 

By working with standardized parts and reused materials (wood + 20x20x1.5mm metal tubing), the system invites you to build smart, waste less, and play more.

Rather than dictating a final form, this design gives you the tools - letting you construct what you need, when you need it. Want a bigger shelf? A wider table? A new setup for a new space? It’s all possible with just a few extra connectors. The beauty is in the flexibility—a system that grows instead of being replaced.

What happens when furniture isn’t a finished product but an ongoing process? How do we design for change, curiosity, and longevity? It’s about rethinking ownership, reusing materials, and making design open-ended.

We are working towards a shift in mindset to bring an economic value to conservation and challenging business as usual by forging new ways to save and give a next life to materials.

To us, used does not have to mean low quality. With care, skills, techniques and an attention to detail, anyone can achieve high quality crafted projects from salvage.
