Patterns of biodiversity

An exhibition with teeming patterns, painterly joy and environmentally friendly materials

In the exhibition Patterns of Biodiversity you will be surrounded by patterns that carry stories about biological diversity, painted by hand with environmentally friendly materials.

Patterns are a cultural expression that is rarely given any value other than the decorative. Patterns are rarely filled with stories, as other visual arts, music, theater and film often are. The duo behind the Patterns of Biodiversity project uses patterns to communicate complex issues concerning the loss of biodiversity, one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time. Creating a pattern of a complex issue means that they are forced to simplify and thereby clarify the message. They can then repeat the message endlessly and it takes hold where they release it. It can fill entire rooms, drape windows or dress bodies. The duo sees enormous potential in filling beautiful surfaces with deeper meaning.

To care for nature, people and buildings is essential for their process. Pattern painting is a craft with deep roots in traditional painting techniques, and the materials are carefully selected to minimize negative effects for the environment. During the exhibition, they will paint patterns and welcome discussions about pattern painting, materials and biodiversity.

Welcome to their world of patterns!
