Caring for materials and finding beauty in the overlooked
CROCHET YOUR TRASH is an exhibition that explores this year's theme "Care" by giving new life to leftover materials. The exhibition takes crochet as its starting point and aims to explore the limits of how and what can be created with this technique, while other approaches are also central to the process. Through a variety of objects where the common theme is the 'leftover', the exhibition aims to show the beauty and usefulness of overlooked materials.
The project began last fall with collecting leftover materials from various locations around Malmö and Lund, materials that would otherwise risk ending up in the waste system. Instead, these materials have been taken care of and used for works that hopefully make us reflect on our resources and question how materials are used today. The exhibition explores how something that might be considered trash can be elevated into something valuable and meaningful.
By highlighting the beauty and usefulness of overlooked materials, the exhibition aims to inspire greater caution and care for our resources, while inviting discussion on production chains and circular thinking.
CROCHET YOUR TRASH will be the first exhibition under the direction of Yasmina Karli Malmsten at Galleri Jaktpaviljongen, with more exhibitions to come this summer.
