Design research, what is it and what can it contribute?
Malmö University has a unique design research environment where theory, current research and design practice are intertwined with our design education.
In current times where the future seems increasingly uncertain and uncertain, design and design research can make an important contribution by proposing and shaping both desirable and less desirable futures. The proposal of making futures tangible matters as it allows us to gather, understand and make commitment to an otherwise often elusive and distant futures.
In the exhibition at Lokstallarna, Malmö University displays results from design research projects that tackle futures in different ways; Grief & Hope in Transition, Indigenous Climate Observatories, Alternative Air Conditioner and six student works from the course Research through Design, year 2, BA Product Design. Together, the projects show how design research can function as a support in creating care for our and future generations' futures.
