Textiltryck Malmö is showing the exhibition Everyday Fibers, which questions the contemporary approach to textile everyday objects with the intention of broadening the understanding of textile craft.

During Southern Sweden Design Days 2024, Textiltryck Malmö is showing the exhibition Everyday Fibers, which questions the contemporary approach to textile everyday objects with the intention of broadening the understanding of textile craft techniques and at the same time challenging the contemporary attitude towards textiles as a quick and cheap product with a short lifespan.

Textile is a prime material that follows a person through life - we are wrapped in it when we are born, continue to wear it close to the body throughout life and at the end of life we are again wrapped in textile before our relatives' last farewell. Our repeated contact with textile fibers means that most of us have a bodily understanding of the material's properties. - Without even touching a wool sweater, we can sense how it feels against the skin. Despite this, the practical understanding of textiles and textile crafts is limited.

Many see textiles as a cheap, replaceable product, and forget the time, knowledge and material consumption that lies behind each textile product. Against this background, we invite 12 of the workshop's members to, starting from textile everyday objects, explore the unique expression and possibilities of the textile fiber with the intention of broadening the understanding of textile craft techniques and at the same time challenging the contemporary attitude towards textiles as a quick and cheap product with a short lifespan. To further highlight the actual value in textile craftsmanship, the time and material consumption for the individual object in the exhibition is reported with items such as design, preparation of the printing frame, hand printing, finishing, sewing, etc. and the raw material is presented with a brief description of its path from plant to finished product. We simply want to encourage a sustainable approach to textiles.
