A new blue industry: Seaweed of Öresund

Harvest of seaweed

An exhibition on rethinking our relationship with nature – from extraction to exchange

This exhibition explores the potential of seaweed. By showcasing the possibilities of regenerative seaweed cultivation in Öresund, we get to see how ecosystems – both ecological and economic – can be created. Seaweed, with its natural ability to purify the ocean, capture carbon dioxide, and serve as a versatile food and raw material, represent a key resource for a more sustainable future. The exhibition presents how regenerative seaweed farming can take root in Öresund, drawing from an ongoing pilot-project in Malmö.

The cycles of seaweed remind us of the delicate balance between humanity and the environment. The exhibition seeks to spark inspiration of a future where sustainability and innovation go hand in hand. Could the future of food systems be found in the past? Visitors are invited to an interactive experience – exploring the potential of algae, touching and tasting, and discovering how design and collective action can help cultivate a new blue industry in Öresund.

The exhibitor is Sara Hansson, Malmö’s first seaweed farmer and founder of TÅNG TÅNG Öresund which offers seaweed tours, cultivation and culinary experiences in Skåne. TÅNG TÅNG collaborates with local creatives and organisations to host events for everyone – both at sea and in the city.
