How can we become better at feeling, understanding and relating to the soil?
Can we develop a deeper sense of soil? In the exhibition, Maria Viftrup and Jordens Hus explore “Soil Sensing” – a new discipline where art, science and agriculture meet to highlight the invisible life and significance of the soil.
Soil is an archive of the past and a necessity for the future. But do humans have a "Sense of Soil", or can we develop and train one? Everything on our planet is related to soil in some way. But the living soil is under pressure today and we therefore need to train our individual and collective sense of soil.
The Danish artist and speculative designer Maria Viftrup, together with the organization Jordens Hus, has created a new discipline that they call “Soil Sensing” in the moving field between art, science and agriculture.
30 Nordic researchers, artists and farmers have been invited to contribute with experiments in methods to feel, understand and relate to soil. Based on this research, Maria Viftrup has created a “Soil Sense Training Facility” where visitors come into close contact with soil issues.
