A conversation about creative reuse, inclusion, and the sustainable hosting of the future.
Large, established, and high-profile events like the Eurovision Song Contest have both the responsibility and the means to make a difference. When the event returned to Malmö in 2024, the project set ambitious goals for all city dressing and design linked to ecological and social sustainability. The aim was for 70 percent of all materials decorating the city to be reused, borrowed, rented, or second-hand. Ninety percent of all decorations were to be reusable or recyclable afterwards. We provide examples and discuss the process, conditions, and future possibilities.
