ReUsed Citydress

Democracy - ReUsed Citydress - United by Music - From Malmö to Basel with love

As an echo of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Malmö 2024, a copy of the City of Malmö's gift to the 2025 host city Basel in Switzerland will be exhibited. A version of the coat dress that Swiss artist Nemo - winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 - wore on the Turquoise carpet at the Eurovision Song Contest's opening ceremony at Malmö Live. The coat dress is designed by the local, sustainable designer Pampas and made entirely from recycled textiles from Eurovision in Malmö 2024. Printed on the coat dress are selected words that partly reflect what Eurovision in Malmö became, and what the city wants to convey to the next host city: Democracy - ReUsed Citydress - United by Music - From Malmö to Basel with love.

The Swiss artist Nemo discovered Pampas in Southern Sweden Design Day's PRE-SSDD exhibition at Malmömässan during the Eurovision week and fell in love with Malmö designer Linnéa Samia Khalil's unique creations. A close collaboration began that led to Nemo – the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 – wearing her clothes both on stage and the Turquoise carpet.

The opportunity to be seen in international contexts such as Eurovision is invaluable," says Linnea Samia Khalil, founder of Pampas. “The collaboration with Nemo feels like a 'match made in heaven' and it is a great honor and somewhat surreal to see a world star and artist favorited to win the competition wear stage clothes from Pampas in front of an audience of millions.

The exhibition PRE-SSDD took place in the City of Malmö's and SVT's Media Center at the Malmömässan in Hyllie, which gathered about 1,200 international journalists and the competing countries' delegations. Through the collaboration with Southern Sweden Design Days, the host city of Malmö was able to highlight and showcase a selection of good examples of local sustainable design. Completely in line with the city's vision for hosting: When the Eurovision Song Contest returns to Malmö, everyone is welcome. Malmö will create a euphoric "Eurovision bubble" throughout the city center. Our celebration will be defined by participation, safety and creativity. Likewise, we believe that there is a special brilliance in reflecting the city's diversity, culture and the distinctive bravery of Malmö. We invite you to playful moments where we respectfully stretch our boundaries a bit. Welcome in! Here music, creativity and care for each other are celebrated. United by music. United by Malmö.

- The host city of Malmö was mostly decorated in a circular and sustainable way before and during the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, says Host City Head of Design Nina Warnolf. For example, 70% of the material for the design was borrowed, rented, second-hand, acquired through sharing services, reused, etc. 90% of all decorations could be reused or recycled after the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

The sustainability mindset continued even after the event ended. Host City Head of Design Nina Warnolf collaborated with Handkraft to develop a number of products to demonstrate possible reuse of Citydress after events have ended. Citydress is profile material such as banners, flags, etc. A material that is usually difficult to reuse. The ReUsed Citydress from the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in the form of pencil cases, toiletry bags, brooches, etc. will be displayed together with the coat dress.

Handkraft is an activity in the City of Malmö that offers employment under work-like conditions for people with mental illness. Participants are offered different specializations and have the opportunity to work in a stress-free environment with different activities. The activities have a strong focus on participation and recovery for the participants.
