Creating new narratives through material re-use
Renew, Reframe, Disrupt” is a residency and group exhibition showcasing designers from a variety of backgrounds including furniture design, art, architecture and textiles. The works created will be a result of a 5 week residency program at the workshop and studio, ReFab Lab in Malmö (Refablab.com) followed by an exhibition on site at the SSDD main location, Lokstallarna.
The participants address challenges of designing with used materials, disrupting the standard practice of waste disposal and re-framing discarded items into valuable resources.
During the SSDD festival the designers/artists will each hold interactive activities focused on material re-use with the public. By combining individuals with different creative backgrounds and workshop offers, “Förnya” makes for an eclectic, unexpected and exciting outcome.
The SSDD theme of “Echo” runs through “Förnya,” where participants exclusively use discarded materials to showcase how reused items like soundwaves can resonate, mimic, and rebound into something entirely new once again.
