The representation of architecture in the "identity-forming process."
"The Nocturnal Thing" is an exhibition and book launch event hosted by Peach Colony for Atelier Heyman Hamilton (AT-HH)'s new book GRAM #7 - Atelier Heyman Hamilton. A situated assemblage of carefully selected books and printed words creates an interwoven dialogue across time and cultures, offering various paths for visitors to explore the representation of architecture in the "identity-forming process."
The term "identity-forming" that AT-HH discussed in their book refers to the ongoing construction of political and/or territorial collective identities, such as national identity, where a collective recognition of an “us” and a “them” is in continuous formation.” Architecture, both as a record and as an active agent in these processes, plays a central role. AT-HH's interest in identity formation is embedded throughout their practice, reflected in their engagement with existing conditions, references, and interactions with the politics regulating architecture.
Peach Colony is a microeconomic entity and curatorial agency recently founded by architect and curator Shuyu Chen, who relocated from Beijing to Malmö. As a project space, it unfolds at the confluence of life and art, the migratory and the communal. At Peach Colony, things and thoughts circulate through gatherings and encounters. We host various events, including site-specific assemblages, performances, Omni-Table discussions, workshops, and tea ceremonies.
