Create memory blocks and build an imaginary future
You are one of the many explorers who are sent to a new planet. As far as you can see, the planet has nothing on it. You were sent to the new planet for a mission: to build a city. However, due to the special condition of this planet, you need a special material to build anything on its soil. The planet needs your memories. With a special method developed by the people on Earth, transfer any of the memories you have and help build a city for humanity’s future together.
The workshop is to build a simple diorama of a futuristic ‘city’ with the children and their memories. In order to bring the past and bind it to the present time, there will be building blocks that act as empty ‘memory cartridges’. The children will need to paint the blocks based on their memories: pets, people, places, feelings, or anything else. Once the blocks are filled with their memories, the children can place their memory blocks on a diorama plane. They can assemble the blocks in however configuration they want. Together with other children’s memory blocks, the blocks will transform into a landscape. In the second part of the workshop, we will uncover our hopes and dreams for the future and add these to the city. This futuristic city will display our feelings, thoughts and connections to the past but also our hopes for the future. This workshop is for children aged 5 and up.
