An exploration of queerness through the lenses of food
The design project “Nourishing diversity” explores the echoes between queerness and food, uncovering their roles, tools, history and inspiration that food holds within the LGBTQ+ community. The project aims to generate and create more visibility and representation of queer individuals through food. Food carries the remnant of the past, reflecting the struggles and triumphs of queer history. It resonates in the present, providing sustenance and a shared language for connection. It also paves the way for the future, inspiring new narratives of inclusivity and resilience. Food is community, food is resilience, food is connection. In the past, in the present and in the future.
The design project opens a conversation about the connection between food, visibility and the LGBTQ+ community, but also embeds a new path within those two areas combined for a new creatively designed future. Like the iterative process of cooking, this project evolves step by step—each recipe, story, and dish building on the last. It mirrors the interconnectedness of design: food nourishes community, energizes resistance, and creates spaces for belonging.
