A performance that highlights the water in our bodies and the bodies of water around us

A performance by Stefan AnderssonA river is in constant movement and transformation, In RIVER, the river Kävlingeån and the lakes Gyllebosjön and Bolmen in southern Sweden are connecting points between the wild waters flowing in the pipes of Malmö, in our bodies, and my personal history with these waters.

Water is crucial for all living beings, we cannot live without it, and it's now dealing with endless severe consequences caused by human activity. We mammals consist of mostly water, we start our life in amniotic fluids and life on earth began in water. What are you drinking everyday? How do we and the waters mirror each other in transforming the effects of patriarchy?

This is a performance that highlights the water in our bodies and the bodies of water around us. I believe that we need strategies for both critical questioning, action and intimate connection, to care for the water is to care for ourselves!

A FESTIVAL FOR ECOLOGICAL CULTURE IN MALMÖ https://locallyalien.org/

The objective of this program is to look more deeply at nonhuman species (plants, fungi, animals, bacteria, and the rest) in Malmö and to better understand the market and state forces behind rapid extinction of species globally. Listening to, and looking to creatures around us, they can show us how these forces are at work here in the city.

In this post-industrial city we can find that the myth of “man and nature” is baked into its harbors, roads, and buildings. Through Locally Alien we will explore how domination, extraction, and exploitation have come to define our relationship to nonhuman residents of the city.

The program is composed of creative workshops, exhibitions, walks, and performances focused on the ecological culture of Malmö. Through the perspective of the city’s many different residents we might find new ways of relating to nonhuman ecology.

Stefan is a Swedish theatre and performance artist dedicated to exploration, experiment and interdisciplinary practice. Currently working in studio, street, nature and photography, where he’s researching movement, text writing and methods of collective action and participation, and he’s also leading projects and holding workshops and courses. He’s worked in independent theatre companies such as Ögonblicksteatern and Teater Smuts, and he recently graduated with an MFA in Performance from the Norwegian Theatre Academy. His explorations have lately been focused on questions concerning the construction of gender, global politics and personal stories in everyday objects, sexuality, memory, clothes and nature. He’s based in Malmö.
